Some of the standards include sugar free cereals like Cheerios or bite sized fruit pieces like sliced grapes or diced soft baked peaches. There are plenty of other alternatives though that a lot of people may not think of off the top of their head.

One household favorite is banana pancakes. You slice a banana into coins and dip them in pancake batter. Then you cook the banana pancake until the batter is cooked through, not more than a few minutes on each side. Once each side is fully cooked, let the banana pancakes cool for at least 15-20 minutes. These little pancakes make awesome snacks for toddlers that are just learning to pick up their own foods. They are soft and mushy thanks to the banana on the inside and the outside gives it a slightly different texture.

Another snack that is great for toddlers is sweet potato fries which are much healthier than their fast food counterparts. First you would need a couple of large sweet potatoes that have been peeled. Slice the potatoes into strips that are easy to grab by your toddler. In a bowl, combine enough olive oil to coat the fries and maybe some cinnamon or other spice. Toss the fries in the olive oil mixture and then place them on a lined baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for about 30-45 minutes until they are tender.  They will be much mushier than standard fries, but they are usually a toddler favorite!

Toddler trail mix is also a fantastic snack for toddlers. This is different from traditional “adult” trail mix because this does better if it is made in small batches and eaten over the course of a few days. You need a cereal like Cheerios and another cereal like Rice Chex to start with. You will also need a small apple that had been diced into bite size pieces. Place the cereals and apple pieces in a zipper bag and then sprinkle some cinnamon and/or brown sugar on the mix. Shake the bag until everything is evenly coated with cinnamon. You can do one of two things from here. You can either serve it as is or you can line a baking sheet with some foil that has been lightly coated with butter or butter substitute. Empty the contents of the bag on the baking sheet and spread it out evenly. Bake the mixture at 300 degrees for about 10-15 minutes, just enough to make it a little toasty. Each variation gives different textures and different flavors which is great in considering snacks for toddlers. Feel free to experiment with different fruits or different spices.
