These candy canes even make beautiful gifts in addition to decorating your own home. In order to get started you will need to gather up your materials first.

What you need

  • Scissors
  • Red pipe cleaners
  • 2 skeins of yarn, one red and one white
  • ½ to 5/8” ribbon

To get started open up a skein of yarn and snip a piece of yarn on the loop at the end so that you now have two bunches, repeat this process with the other skein of yarn. Take one red bunch of yarn and one white bunch and tie them together around the end of a red pip cleaner. Next you will want to twist the two colors all the way around the pipe cleaner; this will help make the striped appearance to the candy cane. Trim the yarn at each end and if the pipe cleaner needs trimmed do so now. All that’s left is to bend your craft into a candy cane shape and you are ready to decorate!

Time Capsule Ornament

The time capsule ornament is a great way to commemorate every year for your family. To get started you will first need to gather up your materials.

What you need

  • A clear plastic ornament
  • Ribbon
  • Scrapbook paper cut up into strips
  • Small pictures or other small items that will fit into the ornament
  • Two sided tape

How to create the ornament

You will want to write notes on the strips of paper and roll them up and place them inside of your ornament. You can then add pictures or other small mementos’ that will fit inside. Reassemble the ornament and tie some ribbon on the outside with a strip of tape around it. Don’t forget to include the year on your ornament as well.

What you need

  • Pencils and a ruler
  • Card stock
  • A jar lid
  • Decorative string
  • Glue stick
  • Shiny paper
  • Scissors
  • Photos
  • Glitter or stickers

How to begin

For each homemade card you will want to measure a piece of card stock until it’s about 9 inches by 4 inches and fold it in half. Draw an ornament shape using the jar lid as your outline. Cut out the ornament, making sure to leave the fold intact. Cut up and lay the string across the fold of the ornament as shown.

Place glue onto the paper just below the fold and tie the string together to form a bit of a hanging loop. What you need

  • Craft sticks or popsicle sticks
  • Shades of brown felt
  • Scissors
  • Google eyes
  • White felt
  • Ribbon
  • Red and Brown pom poms

How to make the ornaments

Glue together 3 craft sticks into a triangle shape, with some overlap on the two corners for the deer’s antlers. Glue together two more sticks onto the triangle, one on each side of the overlapped sticks as shown.

Now you want to glue a piece of brown felt onto the triangle and trim it so that it matches the sticks. Glue on the Google eyes, and the pom pom for the nose, and ears. Make sure to include the white felt to the reindeer’s forehead, and add a loop of ribbon in the back to hang your ornament.
